  • Karen Campbell

    Trade Commissioner, Thailand

    As New Zealand's Trade Commissioner to Thailand Karen leads New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s operations in the country. She is responsible for connecting New Zealand businesses to Thailand and linking Thai investors with New Zealand business opportunities, through New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s investment team.
     
    A long-time resident of Thailand, Karen was previously employed by Bangkok Bank (BBL) as Executive Vice President, Product and Distribution Department. She worked with BBL for 14 years in total, first as an advisor in the area of retail banking and then managing the consumer product portfolio and non-branch channels.
     
    Prior to BBL, Karen worked for Visa International (Asia Pacific) in Singapore and Japan, and in Japan for a small retail banking consultancy.
     
    In New Zealand, Karen started work in the Post Office Savings Bank and was involved in the formation of PostBank and subsequently in the recovery of the Bank of New Zealand.  
    She holds a Bachelor of Science from Canterbury University, New Zealand, and a MBA from IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland.

  • Richard White

    Trade Commissioner, New Delhi

    Richard is Trade Commissioner in New Delhi and leads NZTE’s team in north and east India.
     
    Prior to taking up this role in February 2012 Richard managed NZTE's Incubator Support Programme. As well as working closely with New Zealand incubators, including world class operations such as The ICEHOUSE and PowerHouse Ventures, Richard was an active member of the international incubation community. He became recognised as a leading international authority and was a sought after presenter, panellist, moderator and facilitator at numerous international conferences and workshops including World Bank, APEC and Pacific Islands Forum events. He remains an active member of the Asian Association of Business Incubation, the Europe based Technopolicy Network, the Science Park & Innovation Centre Experts (SPICE) Group and is on the Editorial Board of the Asia Pacific Journal of Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
     
    Prior to joining NZTE in 2002 Richard spent three years as Chief Executive of the Insurance Institute of New Zealand and 15 years in corporate and commercial banking. Richard holds a Master of Business qualification and is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Banking and Finance (AIBF). He served as New Zealand's representative on the AIBF board from 2001-2005.


  • Fiona Acheson

    Trade Commissioner, Kuala Lumpur

    Fiona is based in Kuala Lumpur as Trade Commissioner, overseeing NZTE’s operations and key relationships in Malaysia and Indonesia, New Zealand’s 12th and eighth largest export markets respectively. She is also responsible for Brunei.
     
    Before taking up her appointment in January 2010, Fiona was NZTE’s International Market Manager for Southeast Asia working with exporting companies. Prior to that she led NZTE’s Communications team.
     
    Fiona has held a variety of marketing and communications roles in the private and public sector.
     
    She has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the University of Otago and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Massey University.

  • Hernando Banal

    Trade Commissioner, Philippines

    Hernando Banal is responsible for NZTE’s activities in the Philippines.
     
    Based in Manila, Hernando has extensive experience in various industries including IT services, software development, airline operations, engineering design services, and steel manufacturing.
     
    He has worked in New Zealand, Hong Kong, China, and the Philippines.

    Hernando lived in New Zealand for 14 years and is an active board member of the Philippines - New Zealand Business Council.
     
    He holds a Certificate in Engineering (Electronics and Computer Technology) from Auckland University of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Mapua Institute of Technology (Manila).

  • Ziena Jalil

    Trade Commissioner, Singapore

    Ziena was appointed New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Singapore in January 2010 and is responsible for facilitating and promoting business opportunities and relationships for New Zealand.
     
    Prior to this Ziena was based in Hong Kong as NZTE’s Regional Marketing and Communications Manager for North Asia. Her role involved leading national branding and strategic communications initiatives for NZTE offices across China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. These initiatives included New Zealand Focus Hong Kong, New Zealand Central Shanghai, the China FTA leveraging programme and New Zealand's presence at Shanghai Expo 2010.
     
    Before joining NZTE, Ziena worked in public affairs roles both in-house and in consultancy for organisations in the education, energy and not-for-profit sectors.
     
    She has received several awards in Asia and New Zealand for her public affairs work.
     
    Ziena comes from Auckland, and her education background is in international trade and strategic communications.

  • Gavin Young

    Trade Commissioner and Consul General, Mumbai

    Gavin has responsibility for Southern India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives as New Zealand’s Trade Commissioner based in Mumbai.
     
    Before taking up this position, Gavin managed a project in New Zealand to develop the Horticulture Industry Strategy with the goal of making it a $10 billion industry by 2020. He also headed projects on traceability and functional foods and has a wide understanding of exporters and their goals.
     
    Earlier, Gavin was based in Dubai as head of Middle East operations for NZTE, leading the establishment of the Middle East Beachhead programme and significant new growth in the education, food and beverage and ICT markets.
     
    Gavin has considerable experience in trade and market development. He established the NZTE Office in Ho Chi Minh City in the mid 1990s, where he was the first Trade Commissioner and Consul General.
     
    Gavin was also Trade Commissioner in Papua New Guinea where his focus was major building, mining and infrastructure projects for New Zealand exporters.
