Before joining NZTE I had a fascinating career working around the world in the food business. At NZTE my skills are being taken to a completely new level as I work with the West America region to develop growth strategies.

Leone Evans
Sector Director, Food and Beverage, located in Christchurch
I enjoy working for NZTE because my current work allows me to take an active role in the development of the New Zealand food industry. I lead a team of committed professionals who work very closely with individual firms, industry groups, and networks – both here in New Zealand and globally – to assist their business growth.
I am constantly inspired by the number of successful and highly innovative food companies that have developed new business models, products and solutions, which each add significant value to our primary industry products and processes. It is an exciting time to be involved with the sector and I get much pleasure in being able to say the work we do here at NZTE does indeed make a difference.

Hesham Salah
Business Development Manager – Middle East, located in Dubai
I have been working for NZTE for over 11 years. Engaging with New Zealand companies at various management levels is a very good experience. NZTE being a government agency, exposure to public sector operations is also an interesting part of the job.
My focus is technology and I work for a segmented group of clients with market coverage of the Gulf and Middle East. As part of the Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) team, I’m also closely involved in regional planning and activities.

Michelle Sullivan
Investment Manager, Biotechology, located in Auckland
The Investment New Zealand Biotechnology team is part of the wider NZTE Biotechnology team, and this provides a stimulating team environment for exchanging ideas, keeping connected to New Zealand companies and working collectively on large projects.
The highlights of my role are many and varied, but I particularly enjoy maintaining a broad knowledge of global trends in the sector, by reading current literature, market intelligence reports and networking with high-level contacts in biotechnology companies, venture capital funds and other government agencies. I also relish the project work required in the job, such as developing a dedicated business case to profile New Zealand as a compelling investment destination for companies considering investing here. This is especially rewarding when it results in an inward investment for the New Zealand biotechnology industry, or helps one of our own emerging companies secure offshore funding.
Originally appointed as a Business Development Consultant in Biotechnology, I have been supported within the organisation to grow within the role, which resulted in my appointment as Investment Manager. Another real benefit of the organisation is the opportunity to work with colleagues who are experts in their respective fields, including ICT, food and beverage, screen production, wood processing, and specialised manufacturing, as well as corporate finance and investment banking experts. This has been invaluable in helping me learn a range of new skills.
NZTE is very supportive of staff seeking offshore secondments. I have been fortunate to cover a colleague's maternity leave in New York for three and a half months, and have recently been based in London for six months to explore investment opportunities.

David Wishart
International Market Manager – North Asia, located in Auckland
The opportunity to assist New Zealand businesses build their capability and develop their export markets gives me great satisfaction. The opportunity to pass on my business experience to others attempting what I have previously achieved is very rewarding.
NZTE has given me a greater understanding of New Zealand business in general. I started as a client manager with NZTE, and after two and a half years I moved to a Trade Commissioner role. On completion of my three years as New Zealand’s Trade Commissioner to Hong Kong, I relocated back to New Zealand to continue my focus on Asia as an International Market Manager. This is a great position, combining the best of my previous roles at NZTE as well as in my earlier career. My current position further complements my skills and knowledge.
