New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is recruiting a range of positions for the Shanghai Expo 2010.
The expo, to be held in Shanghai, China, 1 May – 31 October 2010, will be the biggest world expo in history. NZTE is now looking for a range of individuals who are enthusiastic about representing New Zealand on the world stage. All applicants will need to commit to being based in Shanghai for the duration of the expo and have:
- A degree of fluency in English and Mandarin
- An understanding of Chinese society, customs and business
- An understanding of New Zealand society, customs and business
- The right to work in New Zealand

Positions currently available

Attendants
Three teams of eight, each including a Team Leader, will be required to host visitors to the public areas of the pavilion, 13 hours a day, seven days a week. They will be the main points of contact for the estimated 40,000 people expected to visit the pavilion each day.
The primary task of the Attendants will be to represent New Zealand with credit by making visitors feel welcome, and enhancing their experience through friendly and helpful interaction with them. Attributes of interest will include knowledge of and enthusiasm for New Zealand, ability to relate to a wide variety of people, range of work experience, flexibility and adaptability, and level of familiarity with Chinese language and customs.
A receptionist / PA will be located in the foyer inside the VIP entry to the pavilion to greet visitors and either direct them upstairs or to pavilion management, as required. Good telephone, computer and admin skills will be required, as well as fluency in English and Mandarin.
Operations Manager
The Operations Manager’s primary responsibility will be to manage the three teams of Attendants, to sort out rosters and duties and to maintain high standards of “host performance” in the pavilion. He/she will also co-ordinate delivery of operational and technical support as required by the catering team, the kapa haka performers and the retail operator.
Relationships Manager
A senior role responsible for the organisation of official visits, including ministerial visits and visits by key sponsors to the New Zealand pavilion. This person will work with other members of the pavilion management team to ensure that all aspects of VIP visits are coordinated and run smoothly.
Tasks will include communication and liaison with the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing and the Consulate in Shanghai, the Expo Bureau, government offices in New Zealand, and sponsor partners. The Relationships Manager will co-ordinate VIP travel and transport arrangements and will work closely with hospitality area staff to ensure that all activities on the mezzanine floor are well coordinated and successful.
He or she will require the ability to manage relationships, and to interpret in formal/business settings.
