Iran is the largest, most populous and richest country in the Middle East. It is technologically advanced, has well-developed infrastructure and a well-educated and young population.
The economy is a mixture of central planning, large state-owned enterprises (which dominate key industries), village agriculture and small-scale private trading and service ventures.
