Details:This workshop is designed to equip new exporters to the South Pacific with the tools they need to do so successfully.

Content is focused on providing an understanding of the South Pacific market and the opportunities that exist, and will specifically include the following key areas:

  • An overview of South Pacific countries and export opportunities
  • How to research these export opportunities
  • Understanding regulatory and logistic requirements, including freight and finance issues
  • Selecting market entry strategies
  • Selecting local partners
  • Marketing and sales strategies.


  • Guest speakers will include:

  • Gilbert Ullrich, CEO of Ullrich Aluminium and Chairman of the NZ Pacific Business Council, who will provide an overview of the different countries within the region, from the point of view of doing business, including the political situation and cultural differences. Gilbert will also highlight the key areas of commercial opportunity, and advise on the most effective means of researching these markets.

  • Trevor Farrell, Senior International Business Manager of Westpac, who will talk about “Getting Paid” and managing your financial risk.

  • IFC Group. Two representatives from the freight forwarding division of IFC will provide an overview of the freight issues faced by exporters to this region.

  • Gary Aitcheson of Humes Pipelines Systems and Sue Walker of CSP Pacific, who will provide valuable insight into sales and marketing strategies that work in this region.

  • Tim Harris, former exporter to the region, who will discuss market entry strategies.


  • The event will run from 09:00 – 16:00, and is fully funded by NZTE.
