Starting a business

Guides to starting a business

Three guides have been put together by NZTE to give you the information you need to develop a business plan, decide whether your idea is commercially viable and take the first practical steps to getting your business set up.

Get help from Biz

You can get specialist business information and referral services through Biz. The service can help you identify and access the information, contacts, training and advice you need to start or develop your business. It can also give you information on government and non-government business services. It is specifically designed for small to medium-size businesses.

Biz has a nationwide network of walk-in information centres, a freephone service and a website, www.business.govt.nz.

Contact the biz freephone service on 0800 424 946.

To locate your nearest biz centre visit www.business.govt.nz/biz.

Join a business incubator

Your business may benefit from joining an incubator. Incubators help businesses to become established and sustainable during their start-up phase. Typically they do this by providing shared premises, business advice and management oversight.

E-business Guide: take your business online

The internet provides a powerful medium for attracting new customers and expanding your business operations. NZTE has resources available to help you develop this side of your business.
