Leadership finalists in 2012 NZ International Business Awards named

Eight business leaders who are blazing a trail for New Zealand in global markets are finalists in the 2012 New Zealand International Business Awards.

The leadership contenders for 2012 have been involved with a broad range of internationalising businesses, including a skincare company, fruit sorting equipment manufacturer, plastics extrusion firm, and developer of pharmaceutical products.

Winners of the two leadership categories will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday 21 March. The leadership categories are supported by KPMG and are part of a broader awards programme run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE).

NZTE Chief Executive Peter Chrisp said it was important to recognise the role great leadership played in the international success of New Zealand’s companies.

“From governance roles through to hands-on managers, these eight business people demonstrate how strong and visionary leadership helps build globally ambitious businesses. We can all learn something from the way they build teams, articulate their vision, motivate their people and achieve results,” Mr Chrisp said.

Ross Buckley, KPMG Executive Chairman, said it was fantastic to have eight business leaders from a broad range of industries as finalists in the leadership categories.

“The contribution that these eight visionary business leaders are making to the New Zealand economy must be applauded.

"Succeeding internationally in the current economic environment requires decisive leadership, a global mindset and the ability to cut through complexity; something that these individuals share in common.”

As well as the eight business leaders, 27 companies have been selected as finalists in the 2012 New Zealand International Business Awards, which recognise the myriad of ways companies now do business globally.
