The aim of the regional economic development strategy is to engage with a cross-section of regional players to partner in initiatives that will generate step change in economic growth within Otago, and thereby raise the average income of Otago’s people.
Otago Forward’s membership comprises the Mayors of the five Territorial Local Authorities, the Chair of the Otago Regional Council, President of the Otago Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives of the Community Trust of Otago and Ngai Tahu, and three private sector representatives.
NZTE is also co-funding Otago’s involvement in the multi-regional Apple Futures major regional initiative, which aims to produce pipfruit with no detectible residues.
Regional Business Partner network
NZTE and the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MSI) have created a nationwide network of Regional Business Partners to help businesses access information, funding, training and development services.
These providers may also provide NZTE Capability Development Vouchers to eligible businesses to partially cover the cost of these services.
