Auckland

The Auckland Regional Economic Development Strategy has been developed by greater Auckland’s eight local authorities, in conjunction with central government and the region’s business, education, research and voluntary sector interests.

The strategy aims to draw the many contributors to economic development in the region together into a few significant actions under an action plan, branded the METRO plan.

Economic development agency Auckland Plus is supported by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) funded projects and local councils to implement the METRO action plan.  It has a particular focus on the development of innovation and supporting productivity of firms in the region. Auckland Plus and the Auckland Regional Council also contract with NZTE to administer the Regional Strategy Fund. They implement priority projects identified in the strategy as having a focus on enterprise and innovation.

NZTE has awarded Major Regional Initiative funding to:

  • help establish a new sound Stage in Henderson
  • undertake capability and marketing development in the region’s film industry
  • develop launching and retrieval facilities for a super-yacht precinct at Hobsonville.
