Chatham Islands

The Chatham Islands Enterprise Trust was established to promote the economic development and well-being of the Chatham Islands. The trust’s activities are guided by a strategy formulated in 2002 and refreshed in 2008.

Key industries on the Chatham Islands are farming, fishing and tourism, with a particular emphasis on eco-tourism. Chatham Island Enterprise Trust owns and operates the island's infrastructure companies, including:

  • Chatham Islands Airport Ltd
  • Chatham Islands Port Ltd
  • Chatham Islands Electricity Ltd
  • Chatham Islands Forestry Ltd.

NZTE has worked with the Chatham Islands on a number of projects, including funding for the original 2002 strategy and the strategy refresh in 2008.  NZTE has also helped fund a range of activities relating to alternative energy, fish export infrastructure, broadband infrastructure and tourism branding.
