Southland

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) works with regional economic development agency Venture Southland on a range of initiatives including:

the development of Food Network South
broadband infrastructure and business application development across Southland
utilisation of the region’s silica resources
aquaculture development.

Established in 2001, Venture Southland is a joint initiative of the Invercargill City Council, Southland District Council, Gore District Council and Community Trust of Southland. It works with groups and organisations to identify opportunities and facilitate the development of projects and initiatives that enhance prosperity and quality of life for Southland communities.

Venture Southland also delivers Enterprising Training across Southland, under contract to NZTE.

NZTE has also provided funding, along with Southland and Woosh, in the $8 million Southland Whole of Community Broadband major regional initiative, which aims to provide broadband internet access to 96 percent of Southland people.
