Tairawhiti

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) supports the Tairawhiti Development Management Trust in its implementation of the Tairawhiti regional economic development strategy. The strategy aims to create a strong, locally-directed and sustainable economy in Tairawhiti that generates jobs and opportunities and meets the economic, social and environment needs of its community.

The Gisborne District Council’s economic development unit has a contract with NZTE to administer the Regional Strategy Fund, and to implement some of the projects identified by the strategy as priorities for the region and that have a focus on enterprise and innovation. NZTE has awarded money from the Regional Strategy Fund for consultation with stakeholders to refresh the Tairawhiti regional strategy.

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise has also awarded Major Regional Initiative funding to help transform the regional economy by improving the utilisation and productivity of Maori owned land.
