Wellington

Economic development agency Grow Wellington is supported by NZTE and local councils to implement the Wellington Regional Strategy. It has a particular focus on the development of exports from the region. Grow Wellington also contracts with NZTE to administer the Regional Strategy Fund to implement some of the projects identified as priorities and that have a focus on enterprise and innovation.

The Wellington Regional Strategy has been developed by greater Wellington’s nine local authorities, in conjunction with central government and the region’s business, education, research and voluntary sector interests. It aims to make greater Wellington internationally competitive by offering a great lifestyle and job opportunities, supported by a strong economy.

NZTE has also awarded Major Regional Initiative funding to help establish Wairarapa’s food and wine reputation internationally.
