Strategic Pitching and Networking Skills workshops

Well-honed strategic selling and networking skills are essential if you want to win customers in highly competitive international markets

Icehouse and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) have developed the Strategic Pitching and Networking Skills workshops to assist you in fine tuning your skills in strategic selling, and networking in international markets.

Strategic Pitching & Networking Skills workshops

The two half-day workshops will follow two themes:

  • Value Proposition and Elevator Pitch - developing “pitch” content and presenting it in a way that recognises the standard of the local competition.
  • Networking Skills - maximising business opportunities or increasing your personal networks, and learning the essential skills to network effectively.

Format of the workshops

First half-day

  • Current state of international markets
  • Goal clarification
  • Target segment analysisNetworking and designing the offer
  • Pitch presentation

Second  half-day

  • Specialist speakers and trainers facilitate the presentation skills session
  • Elevator pitch to “Dragons” panel of three experts with experience in investing and/or international marketing at a senior level
  • Action plans and coaching

The two half-day workshops are one week apart.

What can you expect to get out of it?

  • Clarity on market selection and current market state
  • Target customer needs analysis and solutions design
  • Development of a proposal, value proposition and an assurance profile of the company
  • Develop skills for presenting and selling into highly competitive international markets
  • Experience in presenting to a discerning and critical panel of “Dragons”, and role playing as buyers or investors
  • Feedback from the “Dragons”, facilitators and fellow participants
  • Industry specific networking, connection and potential joint actions
  • A draft Action Plan for the next one to two years
  • Introduction to coaching facilities and services following the programme

Workshop facilitator

Workshop facilitator Dr. Leith Oliver (PhD, MBA, MPhil) lectures on the University of Auckland’s MBA programme and mentors business owners and managers on the Icehouse Business Growth programmes.

His PhD research focused on facilitated learning methods as they apply to business owners and managers in New Zealand. His previous business experience included 20 years of owning and managing a chain of retail furniture stores, and a manufacturing operation supplying furniture components to distributors in New Zealand, Australia, the Untied States and Japan.
