Developed as part of the Manufacturing+ programme, the book draws on insights from 500 people who have participated in workshops around New Zealand since the programme began in 2005. It also includes lessons from dozens of businesses and case studies, some of which illustrate the value of targeting premium niches.
Originally aimed at manufacturers, the Value Creation principles are now used effectively by businesses in virtually all product-based industries.
The book also looks at the opportunities for using lean systems and innovation systems, which for some companies have greatly increased productivity gain.
Value creation
The model identifies four dynamics for any business:
- clarity of strategy
- deep connections to customers
- creative ideas and design
- great operations and execution.
These build four quadrants to the value creation model:
- Purpose – An innovative purpose and business model will give your organisation a clear direction and intent.
- Sharing – Sharing the purpose and ideas with your customers and consumers creates close connectivity from which business opportunities arise.
- Alignment – A deep understanding of markets, channels and supply chains helps you understand where you can create the most value in the global value chain.
- Delivery – Excellent production and delivery is the final step in the cycle.
