MONTEVIDEO: Argentine tycoon Alejandro Bulgheroni is investing US$165 million into a venture to build Uruguay’s biggest dairy farm, according to local newspaper El Cronista.

Bulgheroni is chairman of the Bridas Corporation, founded by his family in 1948. Bridas is one of Argentina’s largest producers of fossil fuels.

According to El Cronista, Bulgheroni started investing in Uruguay’s agribusiness and renewable energies sectors 15 years ago.

Bulgheroni‘s current dairy farm venture is expected to include a processing plant with an annual production capacity of 13,000 tons of powdered milk, an estimated production capacity of 109 million litres of milk per year, 8800 cows and a biogas plant.

The venture has been granted a credit line of US$50 million from the Interamerican Bank for Development.
