BRASILIA: Brazil has hit a new record in the sale of livestock semen used for cattle breeding programs, according to Latin American news site El Cronista.
Sales in 2010 reached 10.4 million doses, with two companies Alta Genetics and CRV accounting for 50 percent of the market.
El Cronista reported that Alta expected to grow by 20 percent this year on the back of a new project to sell embryos.
Alta accounts for 27 percent of the semen market, with CRV in second place at 23 percent.
