BRASILIA: Brazil's government plans to fast-track infrastructure processes needed to avoid bottlenecks at the country's airports ahead of the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games, the Latin Business Chronicle said.
In an effort to accelerate upgrades ahead of the two events, the Brazilian government is reportedly planning to hand over the management of the country's five largest airports to the private sector through concession agreements.
"We have a very fast track action on airports [and] are working hard to avoid any bottlenecks," the president of Brazil's development bank Luciano Coutinho was reported as saying.
According to Dow Jones Newswires, Brazil plans to tender concessions for the management of two airports in São Paulo state and one in Brasilia, and is also in the process of studying how to offer concessions for airports in Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte.
