SANTIAGO: Chile’s agricultural sector is tipped to grow by 6 percent this year on the back of high international food commodity prices, Chilean media reported, citing statistics from the country’s Ministry of Agriculture.
The fruit sector is expected to lead the way with 10 percent growth, with the wine and lumber industry predicted to grow at 15 percent and 7 percent respectively.
“Milk and meat demand will rise by 5 percent, the latter stimulated by the high international prices, especially for chicken and pork,” the Chilean media said.
“Expanded market access to the Indian and Chinese markets is also expected to stimulate production.”
