SANTIAGO: According to the Salmon company Camanchaca, the recuperation of the salmon industry following the ISA virus outbreak is likely to be stronger than anticipated.
Current production is around 0.3 million tonnes in Chile (down from 0.6M tonnes before the crisis) and maximum potential is estimated to be one million tonnes.
This is higher than the world leader Norway (0.9M tonnes), which is believed to have reached full potential.
Global demand is growing for salmon, and Chile is now exporting to new destinations like Russia, Brazil and other Latin American markets.
