SANTIAGO: Chilean winery Cono Sur has won the United Kingdom based ‘The Drinks Business’ 2010 Green Company of the Year Award for its dedication to sustainable practices, according to local media reports.
One of the key factors behind the accolade was the company’s CarboNZero ISO14064 certification obtained in 2010.
“This (certification) made ConoSur the first vineyard in South America to have measured their full carbon footprint under this standard,” local media reported.
The carboNZero programme was established in 2001 by Landcare Research New Zealand Limited, one of New Zealand's leading Crown Research Institutes.
The programme is based on over a decade of research on climate change, greenhouse gas measurement and carbon monitoring.
