China Southern Airlines’ daily flights to and from New Zealand could bring in an extra $100 million to the economy through in-bound tourism, the New Zealand Herald reported.
“Our research shows that while plenty of people know about New Zealand, and might have it on their personal list of places to visit, having a daily flight option can convert that interest into action," the Herald reported Tourism New Zealand CEO Kevin Bowler as saying.
The airline began flying three times a week from Guangzhou to Auckland in April.
Flights were increased in frequency to daily earlier this month.
"Currently more than a third of New Zealand's exports to China are destined for Guangdong province and surrounding provinces, so daily flights will help open up doors for more New Zealand businesses,” Trade Commissioner for Guangzhou Pat English told the NZ Herald.
