Clean technology projects in Latin America

WASHINGTON: The US Trade Development Agency (USTDA) is partially funding two projects in Latin America, which could provide opportunities for New Zealand companies.

In Uruguay, the USTDA is giving a US$419,729 feasibility study grant to Uruguay’s National Administration for Electric Supply and Transmission (UTE) for a proposed 300MW coal-fired power plant that would use clean coal technology.

In Peru, a US$441,960 technical assistance grant given to the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima is fostering enhanced municipal solid waste management and collection in Peru's capital and largest city.

The proposed comprehensive and integrated approach to municipal solid waste management, collection and disposal is expected to yield substantial environmental and health benefits for the municipality.
