VANCOUVER: In what is viewed as a massive boost to the farmed salmon industry, researchers have concluded that sea lice from farmed salmon, long thought to be a major contributing factor to the decline of the pacific salmon stock, was in fact not a factor in the decline.
This conclusion is a major positive validation for the farmed salmon industry, as it counters strong lobbying against the practice and opens up opportunities for New Zealand companies engaged in the farmed seafood industry.
