GE in avionics JV to build Chinese jetliner

BEIJING: General Electric (GE) and Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC) have formed a joint venture to produce avionics systems, the Wall Street Journal reports.

GE says the primary objective of its “substantial” investment in the venture was to supply technology to the 150-seat C919 passenger jet under development by an AVIC subsidiary.

The C919, to be launched by 2016 , is expected to compete with Boeing and Airbus.
