Exports rose to 52 billion ringgit (Malaysian dollar), with imports rising 30 percent to 39 billion ringgit.
'The increase in exports in January 2010 compared with January 2009 was due to higher exports of electrical and electronic products which increased by 55.6 percent,' newswire AFP reported the Malaysian Trade Ministry as saying.
Electrical products account for 40 percent of Malaysia’s exports.
“Exports to major markets (China, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong) with exception of the United States all registered a significant growth,” the Malaysian Trade Ministry said.
