MEXICO CITY: Mexico was the only country that improved its position in the global ranking of the top 10 automotive manufacturers in 2010, according to data released by the Mexican Association of Automotive Industry (AMIA).
Mexico displaced France for the ninth place in the world ranking in last year, with the assembly of 2.2 million units. France came in at 11th place in 2010.
"Mexico is very competitive because the yuan's appreciation is no longer a distinguishing factor in China costs,β the Center for Automotive Industry Development in Mexico (Cediam) said.
βIn the next five years Mexico could produce three million vehicles, which could possibly place Mexico at the sixth in the global ranking.β
In 2010 China was again first place in vehicle manufacturing, followed by Japan, the US, Germany, Korea, Brazil, India, Spain, Mexico and Canada.
