New European directive for machinery manufacturers

PARIS: On December 29, 2009 European directive 98/37/CE will be modified and replaced by 2006/42/CE.

This directive is not only about machine manufacturing, but also applies to components used in machines. It concerns safety and health issues during manufacture.

It also aims to improve risk assessment and help manufacturers evaluate safety. Evaluation factors are more defined than in the current directive.

The modification of the law will not lead to major technical changes, but manufacturers will have more paperwork to do.
