BRUSSELS: The European Commission is to launch a pilot partnership on active and healthy ageing in early 2011.
It is one of the central elements of the 'Innovation Union' adopted by the European Commission on 6 October 2010.
The objectives of the partnership are by 2020 to enable citizens to live longer independently in good health by increasing the average number of healthy life years by two. Outcomes of reaching this objective are to improve the sustainability and efficiency of European social and healthcare systems, to support the European and global market for innovative products and services, and create new opportunities for EU businesses.
