Potential opportunities for New Zealand aviation sector

China: According to a forecast from the National Development and Reform Commission, the accumulated investment in construction projects for airports, railways, highways, water conservancies, urban power grids and other infrastructure projects from the fourth quarter of 2008 to the end of 2010 will reach RMB 150 billion.

In South China, airport expansion projects will be undertaken in four areas:

  • Guangzhou (total investment = RMB 14 billion)
  • Changsha (total investment = RMB 2.6 billion)
  • Nanning (total investment =  RMB 5 billion)
  • Guilin (total investment =RMB 850 million).

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd also recently announced on its website that it will issue inquiry letters to potential suppliers of aircraft structure and system equipments for its COMAC919 large passenger aircraft project.

These projects may offer opportunities for New Zealand companies that can provide the following services and products:

  • Airport Equipment Service: airport baggage handling systems, airport passenger and cargo weighing machines, fit outs for airport terminal buildings.
  • Air Traffic Management Systems: airport management software, aircraft tracking systems, and avionic control systems.
  • Engineering and Association Support Service: aircraft designs, airframes, engines, instrument and electrical, consultant and training services.
