HAMBURG: The German economy has weathered the crisis commendably, according to the latest report from Deutsche Bank research.
The pace and vigour of the V-shaped recovery has surprised economic forecasters.
With growth of 3.6 percent - the best performance since its reunification - Germany was the star performer on the growth stage in the Euro area.
As the special factors (inventory cycle, catch-up effects for investments) that drove growth in "super year" 2010 peter out, the global economy cools slightly and the constraining effects of fiscal policy kick in, German growth should revert to normal.
Nevertheless, it remains robust and at a prospective rate of 2 percent should again far outstrip its potential.
This would more than offset the deep slump in 2009.
