South Korea to put smart grid on show for G20

JEJU ISLAND: South Korea will showcase its smart grid technology at the Group of 20 Summit that opened in Seoul this week.

As part of the South Korean Government’s push for sustainable ‘green’ growth it has established a test bed for its smart grid technology on the resort island of Jeju.

The technology allows real-time monitoring of electricity output and demand. It is designed so that solar panels and wind power generators can feed into the main power grid, with consumers having the ability to store surplus energy and sell it back to their energy provider.

The Jeju test bed will be an opportunity for South Korea to show the leaders of the G20 economies the latest electricity management technologies.
