Telehealth investment forum launched in Denmark

COPENHAGEN: Denmark will host the first ever Ambient Assisted Living Investment Forum from 14-15 September 2010, bringing together ICT companies, potential customers and public and private investors.

The main purpose of the event, which will take place in the Danish city of Odense, is to stimulate more innovation and investment in the area of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL).

Ambient Assisted Living is aimed at:

  • Extending the time people can live in their preferred environment by increasing their autonomy, self-confidence and mobility
  • Supporting the health and functional capability of the elderly
  • Promoting a better and healthier lifestyle for individuals at risk
  • Enhancing security and prevent social isolation
  • Support care-givers, families and care organisations
  • Increasing the efficiency and productivity of resources used to care for the elderly in ageing societies.

“The demographic challenge will put an enormous burden on public finances. Efficient usable technology will be one solution,” Reinhard Goebl, AAL Investment Forum chair said.

“That’s why AAL technologies will become increasingly important. They reduce the impact of this demographic shift and at the same time open up new market opportunities in the ‘silver economy’ for SMEs.”

The AAL Investment Forum is supported by the AAL Joint Programme, the world's largest initiative which has been implemented by 20 European member states and three associated states.

The programme receives substantial financial support from the European Commission. The objective of the AAL Joint Programme is to enhance the quality of life of older people and strengthen the industrial base in Europe through the use of ICT.
