BANGKOK: Thailand’s Commerce Ministry is looking to finalise a free trade agreement with members of the Bimstec countries by July, the Bangkok Post reported.
Negotiations between Thailand and the Bimstec countries (Bangladesh, India, Burman, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan) have remained in stasis for two years.
Director General of Thailand’s Trade Negotiations Department Srirat Rastapana told the Bangkok Post that the country was urging for rules of origin, customs procedures and tariff reduction schedules for all signatories.
"The will pave the way for the signing of the agreement at the fifth ministerial meeting in Bangladesh in December of the group, formally know as the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Technological and Economic Cooperation Forum," the Bangkok Post said.
