Uruguay opens up wind energy project for bids

MONTEVIDEO: Uruguay’s National Electricity Provider (UTE) has opened a bid to generate up to 150 MW of wind energy at a guaranteed price for 20 years, Business News America reported.

“Uruguay has no oil, gas or coal and wind energy is competitive from an economic point of view,” Business News America said.

The country is aiming to generate 300 MW from wind energy by 2015.

In 2009, UTE opened its first wind farm of 10MW in 2009 and is already building a second one to reach 20MW.
