On 1 November Malaysia implemented new mandatory standards on some aluminium products with tariff headings 7606 and 7607.
Under the mandatory standards, importers of the affected aluminium products are required to obtain a Certificate of Approval (CoA) or letter of exemption issued be specified bodies. The COA certifies that the product conforms to the requirements of Malaysian Standards, or the relevant international standard if a Malaysian Standard is not available. Exemptions from the requirements are available in certain circumstances.
We understand that consultation with relevant industries and associations has taken place, so New Zealand exporters affected should discuss these changes with their importing partners.
