Get involved with the Expo

The Shanghai World Expo 2010 is an event of significant national importance for China with the host nation committed to making it “a successful, splendid and unforgettable exposition.”

It will provide an unparalleled opportunity for New Zealand businesses and organisations to strengthen and deepen relationships within the region by hosting their Chinese clients and contacts within a uniquely New Zealand environment.

Additional information and forms

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise has developed a comprehensive business leveraging programme to help New Zealand businesses, organisations and regional groups maximise the opportunities that World Expo offers.

The NZTE business leveraging programme includes:

  • VIP hosting
  • Ministerial-led business trade missions
  • Business facilitation
  • Use of New Zealand Central in downtown Shanghai

The World Expo is not a trade fair and there is no company exhibition space in the New Zealand Pavilion.

VIP hosting

New Zealand business, organisations and regional groups can enjoy easy access to exclusive VIP hospitality facilities at the New Zealand Pavilion and host their guests in a unique showcase of New Zealand culture, innovation and technology.

NZTE’s VIP corporate hosting programme presents a special opportunity for businesses to spend dedicated time with international contacts, develop relationships and progress business dealings.

Aimed at established exporters with existing Chinese and other international relationships, The VIP area is available for business meetings, lunches, dinners and functions. The best of New Zealand food and beverages and friendly hospitality will be provided Ruth Pretty Catering.

There is no charge for using the New Zealand Pavilion VIP hospitality facilities. Participants are expected to organise their own international contacts and guests to the events they organise.

VIP hosting options

  • Guests can be served morning or afternoon tea, lunch or dinner
  • Dining for groups from 2 to 40 people
  • Cocktail functions catering for up to 110 people
  • Audio-visual presentation facilities available for companies booking events

Please note that all visitors to the New Zealand Pavilion will need a valid ticket to enter the Expo park. Visitors should allow plenty of time to get into the park and to the pavilion itself. For ticketing information, contact China Travel Service

Ministerial-led business trade missions

NZTE anticipates a number of ministerial led missions during Expo 2010. These will focus on key sectors including food and beverage, ICT and specialised manufacturing. There will also be multi-sector missions including Maori trade and tourism, regional and sister city focused activity.

Business facilitation

NZTE offers a range of business support services to individual businesses and business groups visiting Shanghai including market intelligence, business matching, event management, in-market consulting and industry site visits.

Fees may apply subject to a supplied brief. NZTE can also provide referrals to external suppliers where appropriate.

New Zealand Central

Maximise your visit to Shanghai by using New Zealand Central – NZTE’s world-class business centre in downtown Shanghai.

New Zealand Central offers business support facilities, hospitality options and exhibition, presentation and seminar facilities.

NZTE will be waiving the standard day pass fee during the Expo period. Charges will still apply for room hire and catering.

New Zealand Central is located at 3rd Floor, Jin Lin Tiandi, 190 Ma Dang Road, and is within easy walking distance from a dedicated subway line to Expo Park.

Key contacts

Commissioner-General, Phillip Gibson

New Zealand Commissioner-General for the expo is career diplomat, Ambassador Phillip Gibson. He is one of New Zealand’s most senior diplomats and was New Zealand Commissioner-General for World Expo 2005 in Aichi Japan. Ambassador Gibson is currently New Zealand’s Ambassador to Indonesia. He has extensive experience in Asia, having also been Ambassador to Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. He is also a former Executive Director of the Asia New Zealand Foundation (previously known as Asia 2000).

Project Director, Mike Pattison

Project Director for New Zealand’s participation at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai is Mike Pattison. He has extensive experience in the fields of export marketing and major events management and project managed the New Zealand pavilion at Taejon Expo’93 in Korea and at Expo 2005 Aichi in Japan.
