Gavin Young is responsible for Southern India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives as our Trade Commissioner in Mumbai.
Before taking up this position, Gavin managed a project in New Zealand to develop the Horticulture Industry Strategy with the goal of making it a $10 billion industry by 2020.
He also headed projects on traceability and functional foods and has a wide understanding of exporters and their goals.
Earlier, Gavin was based in Dubai as our head of Middle East operations, leading the establishment of the Middle East Beachhead programme and significant new growth in the education, food and beverage and ICT markets.
Gavin has considerable experience in trade and market development. He established our office in Ho Chi Minh City in the mid 1990s, where he was the first Trade Commissioner and Consul General.
Gavin was also Trade Commissioner in Papua New Guinea where his focus was major building, mining and infrastructure projects for New Zealand exporters.
