Growth in the mobile-phone sector has been rapid. According to Euromonitor the mobile phone penetration rate in Thailand was 155.4 percent in 2010. Competition in the mobile-phone sector is well-developed, resulting in lower prices and improved services.
Rural residents have flocked to mobile-phone services in preference to waiting for access to fixed-line services. Mobile telephony is also more affordable compared with fixed-line services.

Research firm Ovum has forecast that the number of mobile broadband users in Thailand will grow to about 1.66 million in 2010. By 2014, the number is expected to rise to almost 30 million.
Internet usage has been rising rapidly, albeit from a low base. The most frequent complaint about the internet is that response times are slow, but this problem should ease with increased broadband coverage. Wireless services are becoming increasingly popular, making the Internet more accessible.
Internet is available to nearly a quarter of Thai population and penetration has grown 600 percent between 2000 and 2009.
