Malaysia’s Trade Descriptions Act 2011 will, from early 2012, mean that Malaysian Halal certificates can be issued by the Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM) and state Islamic religious councils only.
We understand that imported products can continue to seek certification from the foreign halal certification bodies recognised by JAKIM (including NZIMM and FIANZ) and use their logos. JAKIM has been running training sessions on the changes, so New Zealand exporters should discuss these changes with their importing partners.
