Food and beverage regulations in Hong Kong

The free port status of Hong Kong means there are no real barriers to trade and import licensing is also kept to a minimum.

Import licences are needed for:

  • frozen or chilled beef, mutton, pork and poultry product imports
  • liquor.

In addition to import licences, chilled meat and game meat importers are also required to hold import permits.

Imported milk and milk beverages must be approved by the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene.

Some products, including milk products and alcohol, have special labelling requirements and exemptions.
