Information and communications technology market in Thailand

Thailand’s information and communications technology (ICT) market is one of the fastest growing in Southeast Asia. With a population of over 60 million and penetration of mobile and internet services continuing to grow, Thailand has become an attractive ICT market.

As Thailand becomes increasingly affluent, and disposable incomes grow, expenditure on ICT products is rising. However, Thailand’s ICT market faces challenges as it enters a period of liberalisation.

Communications is the largest sub-sector in the ICT market. Internet penetration is one of the highest in the region and huge price reductions have produced a rapid shift to broadband, particularly in Bangkok and metropolitan areas.

Regulations

There are no government restrictions on foreign investment in ICT with the government allowing investors to have 100 percent ownership. The initial investment capital for companies is a minimum of 3 million Baht.
