Australian manufacturing industry sales are estimated to be over A$390 billion and represent over 10 percent of Australia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Australia’s manufacturers create goods and services in a number of specialist fields including aviation, clean technology, defence, heavy and light engineering, marine and plastics, composites and metals.
Despite its size, the manufacturing sector in Australia has been pressured to adapt and innovate to compete with low cost imports, mainly, from China. As a response many innovative manufacturing methods have been developed into key Australian strength industries focused on commodities.
