NZTE has project management for the joint Government-industry Food and Beverage Taskforce, announced by the Government in December 2004. With 19 members drawn primarily from the private sector, the taskforce is co-chaired by Economic Development Minister Trevor Mallard and the Chair of the New Zealand Food and Grocery Council, Tony Nowell. NZTE’s Chief Executive Tim Gibson is also a member of the taskforce.
The long-term objective of the taskforce is to see the resources of the industry, government, science and education, focused in partnership to secure and enhance New Zealand’s role in the international food industry.

In 2004, the Government established the Food and Beverage Taskforce and asked it to assemble a development agenda for the sector.
In August 2006, the Food and Beverage Taskforce presented its final report to the Government. The report identifies challenges and opportunities the sector faces and outlines key recommendations for taking the sector forward.
