The expo is expected to draw 70 million visitors with around 7 million visiting the New Zealand pavilion.

Aligned with the expo theme of 'Better City, Better Life', the New Zealand Pavilion follows the concept of 'Cities of Nature, Living between Land and Sky'.

Inside the pavilion, visitors walk along an ascending ramp, taking them through a day in the life of a composite New Zealand city.

The Cities of Nature experience highlights the constant presence of nature in New Zealand’s urban life – an innovative economy co-existing with natural beauty.

The journey starts at dawn, beginning with nature and the ocean. It asks the question ‘What is a better life?’ and provides possible answers using visual projections, graphics and lighting.

As the day progresses, the journey moves on to farmlands and bush.

The next stage presents the visitor with images of Kiwi kids moving from the rugby field to the classroom and graduating from University.

Along the pathway, a number of structures combine to form the shapes and volumes of the city, with images and patterns on their surfaces creating a kaleidoscopic effect.

The Pavilion strives to present a vision of a nation drawing inspiration from nature as the journey moves on to the workplace and city life, followed by snowy mountain-tops and oceans providing leisure time.

The Cities of Nature experience ends near the top of the walkway, finishing in a mountain setting.
