NZTE sets the Gold Standard

NZTE's North Asia Communications and Marketing Team was awarded the Gold Standard in Country and Trade Promotion at the Public Affairs Asia Awards last week.

The awards recognise excellence in public policy, government affairs and corporate communications and represent the highest accolade in the field across Asia.

The NZTE team (Ziena Jalil, Edith Au-Yeung, Jane Yang, and Ching-yi Heidi Chan) was awarded for its PR programme supporting New Zealand Unlimited - New Zealand's largest culture and innovation showcase held in Seoul last year.

New Zealand Unlimited included a business networking function with more than 500 guests from the diplomatic community, government agencies, business and media; a VIP gala dinner with more than 200 influential Korean government and business leaders; a two-day public event featuring key sectors attracting more than 13,000 Koreans; hotel and restaurant promotions; an education workshop; and an extensive advertising and PR programme, which strongly featured new media tactics.

The Public Affairs Asia Awards attracted more than 100 entries from across Asia and NZTE was short listed alongside Invest Hong Kong and the US Embassy in Indonesia.

"To have been selected from such a high calibre pool and especially when you consider the profile and budgets that Invest HK and the Americans have is truly heartening, and validates the quality and creativity of work that NZTE undertakes," said Rod MacKenzie, GGM North Asia.

Ziena Jalil, who led the team and is now Trade Commissioner in Singapore, said the award was a strong endorsement for the role that PR strategies and tactics can play in securing business outcomes for NZTE clients and NZ Inc.
