Victoria University researchers are inviting New Zealand exporters with a particular interest in services or the Asia region to attend their November seminars.
The researchers have interviewed over 50 New Zealand companies active in services export markets in China and India. They will present their interim findings at the seminars, which will include an open floor question and answer session.
NZTE Chief Economist Gareth Chaplin, who is a member of the project’s Advisory Board, says that the project’s services focus makes it unique.
“There’s not many exporters who aren’t interested in China and India at some point, so having fresh research that focuses solely on services is exciting.”
Midway through the two year project ‘Service Success in Asia: Building a sustainable competitive advantage for New Zealand service firms in Asia - Spotlight on China and India’ the team will travel to China and India in the latter part of 2009 to interview the customers of the New Zealand firms doing business in China and India.
Project leader Dr Val Lindsay says the team has had a fantastic response so far from participating companies.
“There’s an incredible wealth of stories and lessons that companies are generously sharing with us.”
“We want the project’s findings in 2010 to get translated into meaningful levers for New Zealand service exporters, which, in the longer term will benefit the New Zealand economy. Meeting face to face with the business community is one way we can make sure we’re connected with the business community and talk about how the research findings could be implemented.”
