Some activities are not funded by the Market Development programme.
The following list is a guide to the types of costs the programme does not cover.
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) reserves the right to exclude other costs where appropriate. The programme does not cover costs relating to:
- market development activities for the Australian market
- “business as usual” expenses – these are:
- overheads you incur in the course of your normal business
- activities that are already happening in your business
- capital expenditure, such as spending on machinery, equipment, stock, software, and so on
- expenses you would have anyway in your business if you did not get funding from NZTE. Activities eligible for funding must be new or additional activities, or existing activities that have changed
- costs that are not in cash, including:
- contra, transfer, and internal invoices and payments
- barter or in-kind payments
- redemptions from loyalty programmes or reward points (for example, Fly Buys or air miles)
- work done by any subsidiary, associate, or parent company or their employees, any immediate family of the applicant, the applicant’s employees, or anyone with a financial interest in the project or activity (for example, shareholders of the applicant company)
- assistance from NZTE, or activities that are supported by another government assistance programme, or activities for which you have applied for funding under another government assistance programme
- activity that is better supported by other agencies
- activities that are illegal in New Zealand or the target market, or that may be detrimental to New Zealand’s image
- costs your business incurred before or after the funding period. However, you can claim for airfares, accommodation, and entry to trade shows outside of the funding period if the actual travel or trade show happened during the funding period.
If you also receive funding from the Capability Building programme, the total amount you can receive from both sources is capped at $100,000 a year.
