Rewarding international business success
Tim Gibson, Chief Executive, NZTE
It was a real privilege to be present at the New Zealand International Business Awards ceremony on 30 September.
The seventeen finalists, from world-leading software providers to global engineering consultants, dental technology experts and food manufacturers, are making a critical contribution to the New Zealand economy.
The current economic downturn has forced, and will continue to force, change on New Zealand businesses. But it doesn’t alter the need for more New Zealand companies to internationalise, to grow their business, the economy and help improve the living standards of all New Zealanders.
Rain or shine, more New Zealand businesses need to look outward – beyond our shores to the multitude of opportunities awaiting our globally ambitious businesses.
Our future wealth rests on the ability of our businesses to get out into the world’s markets to chase up, and create opportunities to sell their products and services.
The New Zealand International Business Awards recognise companies who are doing just that: companies that are growing their businesses internationally and encouraging others to follow in their footsteps.
Companies like Beca, who compete for business globally and have more than 2500 employees in 20 offices around the world; premium ice cream makers Emerald Foods, who have increased export sales by 300 percent in the past three years and successfully expanded into 20 new markets; etc.
The New Zealand International Business Awards are an opportunity to celebrate excellence in exporting.
That’s exporting in the broadest sense – it includes international joint ventures, investing in regional sales networks and getting production and sales closer to offshore markets.
Never has there been a better time to celebrate those companies that are succeeding and to encourage others to follow in their footsteps.
I acknowledge all those New Zealand businesses who took the time to enter the International Business Awards, commend those who were named as finalists and congratulate those few that were recognised at the Awards as the best of the best.
Your aspiration is others’ inspiration.
Tim Gibson
