Opening day at the Expo

Opening day last Saturday at the Shanghai world expo ‘went like clockwork’ according to New Zealand’s Commissioner-General Phillip Gibson.

He said the New Zealand pavilion had received a constant stream of visitors throughout the day "and the Sunday crowds were just as large".

Mr Gibson said feedback from Chinese visitors and the Chinese and international media was that New Zealand’s pavilion was 'very special.'

He said that the Kapa Haka groups were already a great hit with visitors, as was the spectacular roof garden planted in New Zealand native plants.

New Zealand performers, led by opera singer Zane Te Wiremu Jarvis and violinist Elena took part in the expo opening ceremony on Friday night, representing Australia, New Zealand and Oceania, performing alongside well-known international stars in a tightly choreographed and spectacular event.
